Ammonia Production and Prices

In 2023, about 240 million tons of ammonia was produced.Assuming 8 Billions people on earth, this represents 30kg/year/person.

The price of ammonia depends on how it is made

• Green Ammonia: Produced based on carbon free energy sources

• Brown Ammonia: Typically produced from coal gasification followed by ammonia synthesis

• Blue ammonia: Similar to brown but where the produced CO2 is captured

In may 2024 the prices were as follows

• Green Ammonia: 900 to 1055 USD/ton

• Brown Ammonia: 320 to 460 USD/ton

• Blue Ammonia: 360 to 508 USD/ton
